Abstract
Non-crystalline systems, in general, and vitreous systems, in particul ar, have a certain degree of order over short- and medium-range distan ces. The long-range order of crystals is missing. This paper presents a method to calculate the degree of disorder for non-crystalline syste ms, based on elements of information theory. The method is applied to the alkali silicate glasses.
