A NOTE AN ENERGY-UTILIZATION IN PREGNANT SOWS FED SUGAR-CANE FINAL MOLASSES

Mean values from 43 experimental treatments published where the energy source of pregnant sows was final molasses were used. Nutrient consum ption was calculated and this information was kept in a data base. A s tatistical adjustment model was prepared to attain equations relating energy consumption with the main indices of reproductive performance. The requirements were estimated through the evaluations of the equatio ns. The energy requirements obtained were compared to those of ARC (19 81) and NRC (1988) and the low efficiency of final molasses diets in w eight gains of pregnant sows. The confirmation of the values obtained for the energy requirement of sows is recommended.
