Abstract
Aerodynamic characteristics of rectangular cylinders at depth-breadth
ratios of 1 and 2 are investigated in detail by numerical simulation o
f the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using a third-order upwin
d finite element scheme. In the numerical computation, a uniform flow
is given at the inlet boundary in a computational region and the recta
ngular cylinders are inclined toward the approaching flow in the range
of angles of attack from 0 degrees up to 45 degrees. The present solu
tions for aerodynamic forces and moment by forces of the inclined rect
angular cylinders are compared with other numerical results and experi
mental results.
