Mv. Flores et al., STABILIZATION OF A CELL BIOCATALYST WITH BETA-GALACTOSIDASE ACTIVITY BY GLUTARALDEHYDE TREATMENT, Journal of chemical technology and biotechnology, 64(4), 1995, pp. 353-360
In the present study the stabilization with glutaraldehyde of permeabi
lized, non-viable Kluyveromyces lactis cells with beta-galactosidase (
beta-D-galactoside galactohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.23) activity has been in
vestigated. The influence of various factors in relation to the glutar
aldehyde treatment, such as reaction time, temperature and glutaraldeh
yde and cell concentration, has been considered. The cell biocatalyst
showed a good storage and operational stability. The kinetic propertie
s of the biocatalyst in connection with lactose hydrolysis were found
to be comparable to the cell-free enzyme.
