Abstract
It is proposed that the peritectic reaction, involving dissolution of 211 particles into the liquid and precipitation of solid 123, cannot o ccur at the peritectic temperature for thermodynamic reasons and cryst allization of the peritectic phase occurs directly from the liquid. Th e aligned grain structure is explained through sympathetic nucleation of new 123 grains on existing grains.
