Abstract
In the pentagonal antiprismatic columnar structure of Ta3S2, sulfur ca n be partially replaced by selenium. Selenium accumulates preferential ly at one of two independent sites, which leads to unusually short Ch- Ch [2.973 (3) Angstrom] contacts, where Ch denotes a chalcogen site.
