Abstract
The structure of an unusual 1:2 mixture of iso-morphous bromo and chlo ro derivatives of a 1,5-lactone, 0.34C(6)H(7)BrO(3).0.66C(6)H(7)ClO(3) , is reported, together with the absolute configuration of the molecul es. The lactone ring adopts a conformation between sofa and half-chair . The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H ... O hydrogen bonds betw een the hydroxy and carbonyl groups.
