Va. Ogorodnikov, CHARACTERISTICS OF THE IMPULSIVE COLLAPSE OF WATER-FILLED CYLINDRICALSTEEL SHELLS, Combustion, explosion, and shock waves, 31(2), 1995, pp. 259-261
The impulsive collapse of cylindrical steel shells filled with air or
water is investigated experimentally. It is established that this proc
ess has distinctive characteristics associated with The existence of w
ater compression waves, which inhibit collapse of the walls to the poi
nt of complete closure of the interior duct of the shell.
