A. Klotz et al., CONTRIBUTION OF METAL-BONDED POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC-HYDROCARBONS TO THE INTERSTELLAR DEPLETION, Astronomy and astrophysics, 304(2), 1995, pp. 520-530
A satisfactory correlation is described between the bonding energy of
a given metal coordinated to a PAH and its observed interstellar deple
tion. As a consequence, a modelling was elaborated based on the observ
ed depletion of metals and on the theory of thermo-photo-dissociation
of organometallic molecules. In this modelling, the abundance of organ
ometallic species is calculated to explain about 5 to 10% of the deple
tion in the diffuse interstellar medium. Moreover, a constraint on the
size distribution of PAHs is presented which is close to the standard
distribution deduced by Desert et al. (1990) from a modelling of infr
ared radiations emitted by the interstellar matter.
