A 207 m long core was taken from the deposits of a palaeolake of a tec
tonic basin in the southern Apennines (Italy). Two glacial-interglacia
l cycles were recognized by palynological studies and variation of oxy
gen isotope ratio. Fourteen major tephra beds are present. The results
of the multidisciplinary research place the studied sequence within t
he Middle Peistocene.
