Abstract
A method for quantifying the severity of tumour burden based on fracti onal affected areas, weighted by their mean attenuation values relativ e to normal tissue, is presented. The procedure was applied retrospect ively to routine computerized tomography (CT) scans of patients with h epatocellular carcinoma, and produced severity indices that reliably f ollowed the ranking of an expert panel.
