A study has been made of the influence of the nature of the cobalt cat
alyst, the solvent and the concentrations of the reagents on the hydro
carbomethoxylation of methyl ester of undecylenic acid. With catalysis
by cobalt carbonyl or acetate promoted by a pyridine addition, in met
hanol (120 degrees C, p(CO) = 4.5 MPa) the reaction leads to dimethyl
ester of 1,10-decanedicarboxylic acid in a 70-75% yield, with a low co
ntent of the second regioisomer.
