Using a single-particle light-scattering technique, we investigated ra
pid coagulation with monodisperse Fe2O3 particles (haematite). It was
revealed that the value of the velocity constant of coagulation, k(11)
= 11.0 x 10(-12) cm(3) s(-1), was significantly closer to predictions
by Smoluchowski's theory than to theories which allow for hydrodynami
c and van der Waals interactions between spherical particles.
