Tetranuclear manganese(III) complexes with 2,6-bis(salicylideneaminome
thyl)-4-methylphenol (H(3)L), [Mn-4(L)(2)(O)(2)(CH3COO)(2)]. 2CH(3)CN
(1) and [Mn-4(L)(2)(O)(2)(C6H5COO)(2)]. 2CH(3)OH (2), have been synthe
sized and characterized by infrared and electronic spectra, cyclic vol
tammetry, and temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibilities (4-3
00 K). The molecular structure of 1 was determined by single-crystal X
-ray structure analysis. Complex 1 has a tetranuclear structure, in wh
ich two incomplete cubanes are sharing faces by the ore-bridges. The m
agnetic susceptibility data show an overall antiferromagnetic interact
ion.
