Ability of ACE Inhibitors capropril (with SH-group) and perindopril (w
ithout SH-group) to augment efficacy of isosorbide dinitrate was inves
tigated in a randomized crossover open study in 18 patients with stabl
e effort angina (9 patients had concomitant mild to moderate arterial
hypertension). Captopril (50 mg) or perindopril (4 mg) were given in c
ombination with isosorbide dinitrate (10 mg). In addition courses of m
onotherapy with either isosorbide dinitrate or an ACE inhibitor were c
onducted using same doses of these drugs. Duration of each course was
8 weeks, It was shown that ACE inhibitors significantly potentiated an
tianginal and antiischemic actions of isosorbide dinitrate. This poten
tiation manifested itself mostly in prolongation of antianginal end an
tiischemic effects of isosorbide dinitrate. Potentiating capacity of c
aptopril and perindopril did not depend on Initial systolic blood pres
sure at rest.
