Abstract
Food assimilation under experimental conditions was studied in 45 spec
ies of Passeriformes of six families. Coefficients of food assimilatio
n averaged 0.84 for all species in winter and in summer, and the calor
ic value of egesta was 3.8 kcal/g. The magnitudes of seasonal variatio
ns and of the amplitudes of fluctuations in these parameters differed.
