The temperature dependence of the heat capacity C-p(0), and the temper
atures and enthalpies of physical transitions were studied by adiabati
c-vacuum and dynamic calorimetry in poly(vinylidene chloride) obtained
by polymerization of vinylidene chloride initiated by a radical initi
ator, a mixture of this initiator with triisobutylboron, and a coordin
ation-radical initiator in the temperature range from 5 to 470 K. Usin
g the experimental data, the thermodynamic functions of the polymer, i
ncluding C-p(0), H-0(T)-H-0(0), and S-0(T), G(0)(T)-H-0(0), were calcu
lated in the 0 - 450 K interval, the configuration entropy S-c(0) was
estimated, and the value of the glass transition temperature T-g(0) wa
s refined. In addition, the thermodynamic parameters of polymerization
(Delta H-p(0) Delta S-p(0), Delta G(p)(0)) were calculated, the upper
limiting temperatures T-lim(0) of the process were evaluated, and the
possible thermodynamically equilibrium concentrations of monomer in t
he polymer were established.
