Ll. Kashkarov et al., RADIATION-THERMAL HISTORY OF KAIDUN METEO RITE ON DATA OF TRACK STUDYIN SILICATE MINERAL CRYSTALS AND GLASS FRAGMENTS, Geohimia, (10), 1995, pp. 1409-1422
Track study of similar to 80 silicate mineral crystals (olivine, pyrox
ene, plagioclase) and similar to 40 glass fragments (similar to 100 to
300 mu m in size) from Kaidun anomaleous meteorite has been carried o
ut. The individual crystals and glasses were hand-picked from both cru
shed meteorite matter and its carbonaceous matrix, It is shown that so
me individual crystals retained the pre-accretion radiation tracks of
low-energy VH-nuclei Solar cosmic rays (CR), Pre-accretion irradiation
characteristics of the most representative olivine mineral (percentag
e of irradiated grains similar to 10%, value of rho(VH) max up to simi
lar to 10(7) cm(-2), and rho(VH) range up to two orders of magnitude)
are similar to those values for olivines from Allende CV3 and Kainsaz
CO3 chondrites. An anorthite crystal with its own irradiation history
was found which is quite different from the bulk meteorite one: it con
tains two track generations distinguished by their track densities and
track lengths. Ancient tracks in glasses have two sources: the fissio
n fragments of extinct Pu-244 and CR VH-nuclei, The presence of ancien
t tracks in glasses constraints the temperature of possible short-time
heating of Kaidun breccia by values similar to 25O-300 degrees C.
