T. Okada et al., HUGE HYPERFINE MAGNETIC-FIELD OF NI-61 IN SPINEL CHROMITES CU0.9NI0.1CR2O4 AND CO0.9NI0.1CR2O4, Physics letters. A, 209(3-4), 1995, pp. 241-245
By means of Ni-61 Mossbauer measurements, the hyperfine magnetic field
H-hf of Ni-61(2+) ions in the compressed (c/a < 1) tetrahedral sites
of the spinel chromite Cu0.9Ni0.1Cr2O4 was found to be 800 kOe, which
is the largest ever reported for Ni-61. The large H-hf can be elucidat
ed on the basis of the orbital angular momentum in the degenerate grou
nd state of Ni2+ ions.
