In situ IR studies of benzene adsorbed on several KH beta zeolites, wh
ere the extent of potassium exchange, K/Al (%), varied from 0 to 88.32
%, have been undertaken under different conditions. The bands of adsor
bed benzene on KH beta zeolites in the range 2050-1700 cm-1 were assig
ned. KH beta zeolite exhibits basicity only when K/Al less-than-or-equ
al-to 88.32%, where its basicity is stronger and its acidity weaker. T
he order of stability of the various adsorbed benzene species on the s
amples is as follows: O-(benzene) > H+(benzene) > K+(benzene) > benzen
