Abstract
Esters of pyroglutamic acid were N-protected by conventional protectiv e groups (Z: Boc, and COOMe) in high yield, without racemization, usin g LiHMDS in THF at -78 degrees C and ZC1, Boc(2)O, and ClCOOMe, respec tively.
