Abstract
A mechanically stable thick layer (approximate to 50 mu m) of ZrTiO4 o n a rutile substrate has been obtained at 1600 degrees C by reactive c oating of zircon. This layer is constituted by ZrTiO grains of approxi mate to 10 mu-m average size embedded in a silica-rich glassy matrix. The results are discussed in terms of the ZrO2-SiO2-TiO2 equilibrium d iagram.
