A technique for determining ionospheric electron distribution from obl
ique ionograms is presented, based on the inversion method of Reilly a
nd Kolesar (Radio Sci. 24, 575, 1989). It makes use of an equivalent o
perating frequency and an additional term to account for magnetoionic
effects associated with the Earth's magnetic field. The technique is d
emonstrated by application to synthetic oblique ionograms, and to an e
xperimentally obtained ionogram.
