Abstract
Oxygen dimers on the (2 x 1) reconstructed surface of Na0.65WO3(001) h ave been observed by scanning tunnelling microscopy, with an O-O separ ation (2.2 Angstrom) that is significantly less than twice the ionic r adius of the oxide ion (2.8 Angstrom).
