O. Tellechea et al., TUBULAR APOCRINE ADENOMA WITH ECCRINE AND APOCRINE IMMUNOPHENOTYPES OR PAPILLARY TUBULAR ADENOMA, The American journal of dermatopathology, 17(5), 1995, pp. 499-505
A case of papillary tubular adenoma is reported. On microscopic examin
ation the lesion, located on the scalp, showed a tubular-branching pat
tern, opening on the skin surface, and features of decapitation secret
ion. Immunohistochemical evidence of both eccrine and apocrine differe
ntiation was found. This case, which on a clinicopathological basis al
one could be classified as tubular apocrine adenoma, illustrates the d
ifficulties in contrasting the latter to its eccrine counterpart (papi
llary eccrine adenoma) and suggests that the terms papillary tubular a
denoma or tubulopapillary hidradenoma more accurately describe these l
esions.
