Canine demodicosis is a banal from of dermatosis caused by a specific
mite, Demodex canis, which lives in the pilosebaceous follicies. Trans
mission mainly occurs from the bitch to her puppies during the first f
ew days after birth. The disease could be associated, with either a ph
enomenon of hypersensitivity or immunodepression. The authors describe
the clinical situation before going on to outline possible treatments
. The most appropriate treatment at the present time is the weekly app
lication of a solution of 0.1 % amitraz, which is rubbed into the affe
cted area.
