Abstract
Biological and ecological characteristics of bivalves appear to be par ticularly interesting in monitoring aquatic ecosystems. The interest i n their immune responses is based on the sensitiveness of their immune system to pollutants. Results from immunotoxicity experiments, which may be considered as biological monitors of pollution, are issued with their prospects and limits.
