Ba. Dawson et al., SPECTROSCOPIC CHARACTERIZATION AND PROOF OF STRUCTURE FOR DIMETHPRAMIDE, Canadian journal of applied spectroscopy, 40(5), 1995, pp. 131-135
Earlier, we identified a police exhibit as dimethpramide or, more spec
ifically, as hyl]-4-(dimethylamino)-2-methoxy-5-nitrobenxamide, a subs
tance apparently known only in Russia and sold in tablet form as ''Dim
etcarb''. Because no spectroscopic evidence appears to exist in the li
terature in support of the structure assigned to dimethpramide and the
corresponding 2-(dimethylamino)-4-methoxy positional isomer is not li
sted in Chemical Abstracts, two dimensional H-1/C-13-NMR studies were
undertaken to establish the structure unequivocally. With the structur
e now firmly based one may proceed to attribute infrared, Raman and ma
ss spectral features.
