Abstract
A synthesis of the new metastable enol 2 as well as its reactivity tow ards basic and acidic reagents are described. Pyruvic acid derivatives 6, 9, 10-13 obtained from 2 are valuable building blocks for the synt hesis of alpha-difluoromethyl substituted alpha-hydroxy and alpha-amin o acids.
