D. Burckhardt et Sa. Slipinski, A REVIEW OF THE PASSANDRIDAE OF THE WORLD (COLEOPTERA, CUCUJOIDEA) .4. GENUS ANCISTRIA, Revue Suisse de Zoologie, 102(4), 1995, pp. 995-1044
The genus Ancistria is revised to include 32 valid species, 14 of whic
h are described as new. One genus, 3 subgenera, 15 species and 1 varie
ty are synonymised, and 1 primary junior homonym at species group leve
l is replaced by a new name. The species are diagnosed with external m
orphological, genital and meristic characters, keyed and illustrated.
Ancistria is restricted to the Old World where it is most speciose in
the tropics. Ancistria retusa (Fabricius), the only common species, ha
s a distribution almost congruent with that of the genus; the other sp
ecies are much more restricted. The biogeographical relationships are
briefly discussed.
