The structure of an acidic polysaccharide from the lysoamidase bacteri
olytic complex was studied. On the basis of sugar analysis of the init
ial and carboxyl-reduced polysaccharide and H-1- and C-13-NMR spectros
copy of the initial and O-deacetylated polysaccharide, including two-d
imensional NMR spectroscopy, the following structure of the trisacchar
ide repeating unit of the polysaccharide was established: [GRAPHICS] w
here ManNAcA and GalNAcA are 2-acetamido-2-deoxymannuronic acid and 2-
acetamido-2-deoxygalacturonic acid, respectively. The lysoamidase comp
lex contains also a small amount of a neutral polysaccharide consistin
g of rhamnose.
