Abstract
Understanding the effect of pressure on aluminosilicate glass and liqu id structure is critical to understanding magma flow at depth. Aluminu m coordination has been predicted by mineral phase analysis and molecu lar dynamic calculations to change with increasing pressure. Nuclear m agnetic resonance studies of glasses quenched from high pressure provi de clear evidence for an increase in the average coordination of Al wi th pressure.
