The crystal structure of a new type of ternary sulfide with a layered
composite crystal structure, (SnS)1.15TaS2 was studied by the single c
rystal X-ray diffraction method. The precession photograph of (SnS)1.1
5TaS2 revealed the composite diffraction patterns of C-centered orthor
hombic SnS subsystem with a = 5.749(4) angstrom, b2 = 5.737(4) angstro
m, c = 11.8755(24) angstrom and C-centered orthorhombic TaS2 subsystem
with a = 5.750(4) angstrom, b1 = 3.308(3) angstrom, c = 23.760(5) ang
strom. The structure analysis has shown that the C-centered TaS2 is th
e disordered subsystem with the trigonal-prismatic sites formed by S a
toms are statistically occupied by Ta atoms.
