C. Koike et al., A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE MICROCRYSTALLITE SIZE AND THE OPTICAL-PROPERTIES OF AMORPHOUS-CARBON GRAINS, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 268(2), 1994, pp. 321
The crystalline structures of various amorphous carbon grains and of g
raphite have been studied by means of transmission electron microscopy
. It is found that differences amongst the specimens in the absolute v
alue of absorption and in the spectral index depend on differences in
the crystallite size of the amorphous grains and graphite grains. On t
he basis of this observation, the occurrence of ultrafine grains of th
e graphite phase as interstellar dust is discussed.
