Abstract
The effect of the nature and of the composition eluent on the enantiom er separation of 2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(9-anthryl)ethanol (TFAE) on a chir al stationary phase under HPLC conditions was studied. A series of sol vents with different properties were examined as the mobile phase. The best enantioselectivity was achieved with pure benzene, methylene chl oride and carbon tetrachloride. The results obtained are discussed in accordance with the three-point interaction model and solvatochromic p arameters of the solvents. It is shown that the selectivity of enantio mer separation depends mainly on the hydrogen-accepting ability and di polarity-polarizability parameters of the solvent. A simplified model of the retention and separation of TFAE enantiomers is proposed.
