Rb. Baksht et al., RAYLEIGH-TAYLOR INSTABILITY AND K-RADIATION YIELD IN THE IMPLOSION OFTHE GAS-PUFFS, Plasma physics reports, 21(11), 1995, pp. 907-912
The dependence of the argon K-line radiation yield on the gas-puff mas
s was studied, Experiments were carried out with the inductive storage
GIT-4. The working gas was argon; the gas-puff diameter was 3 - 8 cm,
Discontinuities arising in the gas shell due to short wave-length mod
es of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability lead to a complete disappearance
of the argon K-line radiation in gas-puffs with small mass. The class
ical expression for the RT-instability growth rate is shown to be inap
plicable in treating the obtained dependence of the amplitude of pertu
rbations arising during instability on the gas-puff mass, It is also s
hown, that the gas-puff implosion is accompanied by the growth of unst
able volume modes, and gas-puff stability depends on scale lengths of
particle density and magnetic field variations in the gas-puff substan
ce.
