Iron(III) complexes of vitamin B-1 and vitamin B-1 analogues have been
isolated and characterized by microanalyses, magnetic susceptibility
measurements, thermal gravimetric analysis, and electronic, infrared a
nd Mossbauer spectroscopic measurements. The complexes appear to be ei
ther 4-coordinate or 5-coordinate and are formulated as ore-bridged di
mers. The room temperature magnetic moments are 4.90 - 6.06 B.M. The i
somer shift of [(FeTh(OH)Cl-2)(2)O] is 0.52 mm/s, typical of high spin
iron(III) compounds, but with evidence for the presence of some ferro
magnetic impurity.
