We discuss the penetration threshold of a polymer solution into an irr
eversibly adsorbed layer made of larger, chemically identical chains.
Let N be the polymerization index of the adsorbed chains and P the pol
ymerization index of the free chains (with P < N). If the layer has be
en prepared from a melt, we expect the free chains to penetrate into t
he layer if the solution volume fraction is larger than a critical val
ue phi(bc) given by phi(bc) is-approximately-equal-to (P/N)4/7 for N <
P12/5 and by phi(bc) is-approximately-equal-to N-1/3 for N > P12/5.
