The weight function method normally applied to fracture mechanics prob
lems is applied to problems without cracks. A procedure is described w
hich allows the stresses in the surrounding of inclusions to be comput
ed. The method is applied to compute stresses near inclusions and phas
e-transformation zones in infinite bodies. The results are in good agr
eement with analytical and FE solutions.
