The theoretical hypothesis that the sex-ratio should be biased towards
the sex with the wider and/or more even dispersal pattern is tested a
nd confirmed with an inclusive fitness model in a one-dimensional dipl
oid stepping-stone population in which offspring can remain on their h
ome site or disperse one site to the right or left. Two models are exa
mined, dispersal of both sexes before mating and male dispersal before
mating followed by dispersal of mated females. (C) 1994 Academic Pres
