J. Gibert et al., BIOSTRATIGRAPHY AND MAGNETOSTRATIGRAPHY O F THE LOWER PLEISTOCENE HUMAN BEARING LOCALITIES AT ORCE (GRANADA, SPAIN), Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie 2, Mecanique, physique, chimie, sciences de l'univers, sciences de la terre, 318(9), 1994, pp. 1277-1282
Many geological, biostratigraphical and chronological studies on the G
uadix-Baza depression in the south of the Iberian Peninsula have been
conducted. Nevertheless, the age of palaeontological sites in the Orce
region (Granada) inside this depression, is still a matter of confusi
on for the international scientific community. In this work, we presen
t the new biostratigraphical and magnetostratigraphical data from the
Orce region, which permit us to place the limit of the Olduvai event.
The presence of human remains (Gibert et al., 1989 a, b, d, and 1994 i
n litt.), and artefacts (Gibert et al., 1992 d) in these series (figur
e), makes a correct dating necessary.
