Abstract
A close relationship between birth weight and synthesis of haptoglobin was found in a study of cord blood derived from newborns. Newborn inf ants with detectable haptoglobin types showed, on average, significant ly higher birth weight than those without detectable haptoglobin types under normal conditions.
