A series of novel, copolymers: poly[ferrocenylmelthyl methacrylate-co-
methoxy-oligo(ethylene oxide) methacrylate], have been prepared by rad
ical copolymerization and characterized. These copolymers have been ut
ilized as polymeric mediators for amperometric glucose sensors. Glucos
e oxidase (GOD) and the redox copolymers were mixed with carbon paste,
and carbon paste GOD electrodes were prepared to amperometrically det
ect concentrations of glucose. From cyclic voltammetry measurements us
ing the carbon paste electrodes in the absence and presence of glucose
, these copolymers were proved to function as polymeric mediators betw
een the redox center of GOD and the electrode. The mediation current r
esponse was highly sensitive and increased with increasing glucose con
centrations up to 50 mM. Composition of the redox copolymers incorpora
ted in the carbon paste electrodes also influenced the current respons
e.
