Se. Ulin et al., A CYLINDRICAL IONIZATION-CHAMBER WITH A SHIELDING MESH FILLED WITH XENON UNDER A PRESSURE OF 50 ATM, Instruments and experimental techniques, 38(3), 1995, pp. 326-330
The structure of a cylindrical ionization chamber with a shielding mes
h is described. Its sensitive volume is 2 Liters and it is filled with
xenon at a pressure of 50 atm. The basic characteristics of the detec
tor, such as the energy resolution and efficiency of detection of gamm
a-quanta at different energies, are given. The energy resolution at 66
2 keV is 4% at the optimal electric field in the chamber. The experime
ntal characteristics of a xenon-filled chamber are compared with those
of a conventional NaI(Tl) 200 x 100-mm detector, which is widely used
in both geological and ecological studies. Various applications of th
e cylindrical xenon gamma detector are considered.
