The method of determining the orientational order in uniaxial phases o
f anisotropic matrices based on the polarized absorption and fluoresce
nce spectra is described. The application of this method for three liq
uid crystalline side chain polymers in uniaxial smectic and nematic ph
ases is presented. Based on the experimental data, the order parameter
s [P-2] and [P-4] and the molecular distribution function f(beta) vers
us temperature are obtained.
