The attachment probability P of a Lambda particle to the fragments res
ulting from the fission of a heavy hypernucleus, produced by antiproto
n annihilation in a uranium target, is estimated on the basis of a sim
plified statistical model. A smooth level density generated from the h
armonic oscillator spectrum by means of a Gaussian averaging function
is employed while for the harmonic oscillator level spacing (h) over b
ar omega(Lambda) various analytic expressions in terms of the mass num
ber are used. The calculated values of P-H, the attachment probability
to the heavy fragment, depend on the expression of (h) over bar omega
(Lambda) used. Comparison of these P-H values with the experimental re
sults is made and discussed.
