Brk. Blackman et al., THE FAILURE OF FIBER COMPOSITES AND ADHESIVELY BONDED FIBER COMPOSITES UNDER HIGH-RATES OF TEST .1. MODE-I LOADING - EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES, Journal of Materials Science, 30(23), 1995, pp. 5885-5900
The failure of fibre composites and adhesively bonded fibre composites
under high rates of test, up to rates of about 15 m s(-1) were studie
d in detail. The present paper, Part I of the series, considers the ex
perimental aspects of the mode I fracture of the fibre composite mater
ials and joints. Part II will analyse the dynamic effects which are in
variably associated with high-rate tests, and will show how these effe
cts influence the observed behaviour of the test specimens. Part III w
ill report the results from mode II and mixed-mode I/II tests on the f
ibre composite materials.
