We report for the first time Centrocestus formosanus (Nishigori, 1924)
Price, 1932 (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) metacercariae parasitizing nat
ural populations of Xiphophorus helleri (Poeciliidae) and Gobiomorus d
ormitor (Gobiidae) in Mexico. Adult forms confirming the specific iden
tity were recovered from experimental infections of domestic chicks an
d laboratory mice. The first intermediate host of this parasite is Mel
anoides tuberculata, its role in transmission of the infection was ass
essed by experiments with aquarium Guppies and Cercariae shed from nat
urally infected snails. Both, the snail and the trematode were introdu
ced in the American continent.
