Two new aspects are reported: (a) Resonances in the scattering of C-12
on C-12 are interpreted as arising from an equator-equator orientatio
n of the oblately deformed C-12 nuclei. In these states the nuclei rot
ate around the internuclear axis and carry out butterfly and radial os
cillations. (b) The states of Mg-24 up to the molecular resonance regi
on are consistently studied by a semimicroscopic algebraic method with
two C-12 clusters. This approach applies the U(4) vibron model for th
e relative motion of the C-12 clusters and the SU(3) shell model for t
heir internal structure and reproduces the spectrum and electromagneti
c probabilities of Mg-24.
