E. Belmontmoreno et A. Menchacarocha, SIMULATION OF GEOMETRICAL AND OTHER FACTORS IN SCINTILLATION-COUNTERS, Revista Mexicana de Fisica, 41, 1995, pp. 123-131
Monte Carlo simulation is used to evaluate the behavior of light produ
ced by charged particles in scintillation counters. We take into accou
nt the scintillation counters' geometrical shape as well as its surfac
e optical absorption and its surface finishing. Local light production
is estimated using the model of Michaelian and Menchaca-Rocha [1]. Ab
sorption mechanisms are shown to introduce range-dependent effects whi
ch are most important when the penetration of the particles is compara
ble to the depth of the scintillator.
